Gummidipoondi Town Panchayat is constituted in the year of 1968 formed in 2nd Grade Town Panchayat, further DRO Roc. No.18376/C3 Dt.06.3.1973 from 01.4.1973 to Upgraded in 1st Grade Town Panchayat. The Town is coming under the administrative territory of Thiruvallur District. In this town panchayat total extends over an area around of 10.00 Sq. kms. The town is situated along Chennai – Colcutta National Highways (NH 5), At present population of the town is 18891 as per the 2011 census (Male 9590, Female 9301). The Gummidipoondi Third Industrial of Tamil Nadu having Sipcot Industrial Complex. In British Government period Gummidipoondi called as Kumarakiripattinam. After that the name is modernized as Gummidipoondi. The Town also a main and most essential commercial center of 102 adjoining hamlets. Gummidipoondi is situated in north-east limit of Tamil Nadu and also beginning of near Andrapradesh Limit. The Town is in the name of legistive assembly Constituency and Parliament Constituency is Thiruvallur.
